CESC - Garden Reach KMC

The Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) has a campus located on Garden Reach road in Kolkata, West Bengal. Larsen & Toubro Construction were tasked with building a pump house within the campus.

Heritage Infraspace assisted them with a single-basement diaphragm wall construction for the structure. Despite there being structural and logistical challenges at the site, we were able to complete the project in just over 2 months.

Challenges faced

  • The top strata of the soil was unstable.
  • The moisture content in the land was more due to the high water table.
  • There were logistical challenges as the site was in a cooped up location.

Solutions provided

  • For having a grip on the land mass, a mechanical grab was utilised from a distance away from the Guide wall.
  • Further, In some regions, soil stabilization/pressure grouting was done before excavation.
  • We moved in the materials required for construction when the space had little movement from people around.
